My name is Laura Stegner. I am one of the owners and founders of BTSD San Diego. This section is written to you from my perspective as a woman, wife, mother, and martial artist (and all the other adjectives that describe me). I have trained in various martial arts and in even more dojos and studios. We hope that you find our training hall a home away from home. We do! We are family owned and operated.

What we aren't:
• - A sweaty boys club - though we do sweat
• - A dating service - our senior instructors are all happily married
• - A numbers factory - we care about you

At BTSDsd we acknowledge and accept that training in a combative art must be approached differently with women than with men. Women are physically and psychologically different from men. The instructors understand and organize around this fact. From the unarmed combatives to the gun training, the delivery of content is inclusive of women. Yes, we teach women how to use firearms too.

About 25% of our students are women. We come from all walks of life and some of us are highly accomplished (Ph.D's, Top 1% Crossfit Athletes). I am a CA credentialed teacher and mother of three children (11yr old, 4 year old-with Down Syndrome, and a 1 year old) We are busy women who recognize that the world isn’t a safe place and we work to defend ourselves and our children from the threats of today.
